Kalpa Temple, District Kinnaur, H.P.
Of all the ‘Devtas’ residing in Kinnaur, lord Narayana of Kalpa (an avatar of Vishnu) set in solid gold and silver is perhaps the most revered. Kept in a safe-house secured by iron chains and traditional padlocks, it’s only during special occasions the lord is taken out to meet with the lesser mortals.

Lord Shiva has had a long association with Kinnaur and especially Kalpa from where his abode Kinner Kailash looms large. He still keeps an eye on their mortals and their deeds from an impression etched on wood with branding-irons.
