The Spiti asses are dwarfs. Yet their capability to carry loads at altitudes of 18,000 Ft. and above is phenomenal. Being the chief cargo vehicle in such inhospitable terrain, they are indispensable. One, having lugged our load all day, takes his meal next to a fresh water spring.
